BENNET -
I am trying to locate/contact my two sisters who lived in Wheatley Hill in
the 1950'/60's. From all accounts my father either abandoned or deserted his
first wife, leaving her with three children, I do not know her firs name and I believe she passed away around 1958 but
the siblings are/were :- Male - Walter (?) Bennett, deceased at some point due
to either a drug overdose or incorrect (self) administration of a
prescription. Females :- Maureen nee Bennett.
Married on 24th December 1960/61 to we believe a Mr Kingsley. Maureen by all accounts would now be in her
70's. At the time of her marriage she (and Donna) lived in Wheatley Hill and
the mariage ceremony/reception was conducted
locally. This is the ony time I visited Wheatley
Hill and was taken there (as was the whole family) by my father. Donna
Bennett, mariatl status unknown. Believed to be
about 64 years old. |

BENNETT
- continued....My father was Walter Bennett, born Hull on the 2nd April 1916,
deceased on teh 19th August 1983 and buried in Whitchurch, County of Avon. I am Michael Ronald Bennett
born Sheffield, Yorkshire, 25th Novemeber
1947. I now (and for many years) reside in Australia, near to the city of
Melbourne. I have not seen or heard from my two half
sisters for over 40 years and it would be marvellous
to make contact and "complete the loop". Mike Bennett, 1 McKay
Close, Berwick, Victoria, Australia. |

My wife
was a TONKS from Wingate and we noticed that
there was a TONKS and BURNELL garage business in Wheatley Hill in the 1930's.
Do you have any idea what the christian names of
the TONKS partner was? Where were the businesses of both the garage and the
ironmongers located and when did they close down. My wife's mother was a
YOUNG who lived in Wheatley Hill early in the 1900's and spent some time
working in a sweet shop - probably your confectioners, listed as being owned
by L. YOUNG, Do you know who L. YOUNG was? I have a picture of the sweet shop
before it was owned by the YOUNG family. It was then Nixon's Supply Stores in
the Front Street. On a personal note, I was at A.J.'s from 1945 - 1952 and
have been trying to catch up with an old friend of mine for some time. He is
GEORGE WARDELL who was at school at the same time and lived in the estates
over the road from the cemetery in Wheatley Hill. Is there any way of finding
his present location. |
